The Milton Edge, one of the fastest growing volleyball clubs in the OVA, is pleased to announce the appointment of John Canjar as the club’s Technical Director.
As one of Canada’s most accomplished volleyball players, Canjar brings a wealth of experience to this role. Chief among his notable playing accomplishments are two Canadian National Beach Championships (1989/90 and 1990/91). Also during this time he was a member of the National Beach Team and competed in various FIVB World Beach Tour stops including Japan’s Yokohama Open, the NORCECA Championships, and the World Championships in Rio De Janeiro.
On the indoor court he was an Ontario Summer Games Gold Medalist, member of Ontario’s Provincial Team, and a leader in the University of Toronto Varsity Blues Men’s Volleyball team’s multiple OUA Championships. With the Varsity Blues Canjar also earned multiple OUA (Ontario University Athletics) All-Star awards and a CIS (Canadian Interuniversity Sport) Silver Medal in 1991. Fittingly, his name can be found in the University of Toronto’s Sports Hall of Fame.
As a Level 2 Advanced Development Coach, John will play an instrumental role in fostering the growth and development of volleyball in Milton and the surrounding region. “After one year with the Milton Edge, I have quickly recognized that our executive and coaching teams are passionate, dedicated and genuine when it comes to the development of youth volleyball in Milton. Our club focuses on fun, positive, hard-work so the kids will learn individual and team skills while also competing to win.”
As Technical Director, John will also provide development and mentoring opportunities for Milton Edge coaches. “Based on my own experiences, from a developmental stage to the world stage, I recognize the coach’s role to be an integral element to the success of the program. I am a strong proponent of the notion that young athletes’ skills take time to develop under the right guidance… our job is to provide that guidance and hopefully instill passion and spirit into the athletes for a life experience they will not forget.”
The club is currently recruiting coaches for the 17-18 indoor season. For those interested in learning more, please contact John directly at techdirector@miltonedge.com.
