Coach Michael has lengthy volleyball history. His love for the sport started in high school and continued into post secondary level where he played at Seneca College and later Humber College. In his 20’s he was invited to play for a senior volleyball club called “The Big Up Volleyball Club”. This team consisted of the best Black male volleyball players in the GTA where they would compete for a provincial, then national title. They were also the first all Black volleyball club in Ontario. The objective of an all Black men’s volleyball team was to break boundaries and win a national championship. Luckily enough, Michael, as a team captain and setter lead his team to back to back provincial and national championships. This not only was a huge accomplishment for Michael and his team, but history in the making for future Black Canadian volleyball players.
Michael moved on to try beach volleyball where he was able to quickly adapt to the sand and the rules that came with it. He became a Canadian professional and toured the Labatt’s pro beach tour in Toronto where international competition took place. He also played in the East Volleyball Professionals in the U.S.A.
