John Canjar

Technical Director

As an NCCP Level 2 coach, Coach John has been in the world of volleyball for over 38 years. He is a well-known beach and indoor player, having played on the Beach National Team 89-91, with various top 10 finishes in FIVB World Beach Tours, Norceca Championships, and Various Invitational competitions around the world. Coach John also has his place in Canadian indoor volleyball, having played with the Varsity Blues Men’s Volleyball team, where he can be found at the University of Toronto’s Sports Hall of Fame. Their team were OUAA Champions for 3 years, and CIS Silver Medalists. Growing up in Toronto throughout his youth, he won a variety of medals the Men’s Provincial and National Volleyball Championships; he played at the Ontario Summer Games and on Team Ontario for the Canada Summer Games Team. He has spent the last 11 years coaching and taking on various roles with Milton Edge, where he looks forward to continuing to help kids develop their life skills and experiences through the sport of volleyball.

Stuart Hooper

Coaching Development Director

As an NCCP Level 1 coach, Coach Stuart has been passionately active in volleyball as a player and coach for 40 years. He was privileged to be a part of teams that won championships at high school, collegiate and club levels, including an OFSAA SR Championship, 3 OCAA Championships, 6 Ontario Club Provincial championships (U17, Men's and Masters), and CCAA Silver and Bronze medals. Coaching level experience includes head coach and Technical Director for Burlington Blaze Boy's program, Sheridan Bruins Men's Varsity Volleyball coach, Spikes program coach and Special Olympics volunteer. He brings with him a professional background in business, institutional communication and adult learning behaviours which helps him message a "team first" concept with athletes to achieve goals set out for each season. He is very excited to go into his 5th year with Milton Edge, in various roles including head and assistant coach, and is now Vice President.

Michael Cameron

Development Director

Coach Michael has lengthy volleyball history. His love for the sport started in high school and continued into post secondary level where he played at Seneca College and later Humber College. In his 20’s he was invited to play for a senior volleyball club called “The Big Up Volleyball Club”. This team consisted of the best Black male volleyball players in the GTA where they would compete for a provincial, then national title. They were also the first all Black volleyball club in Ontario. The objective of an all Black men’s volleyball team was to break boundaries and win a national championship. Luckily enough, Michael, as a team captain and setter lead his team to back to back provincial and national championships. This not only was a huge accomplishment for Michael and his team, but history in the making for future Black Canadian volleyball players.

Michael moved on to try beach volleyball where he was able to quickly adapt to the sand and the rules that came with it.  He became a Canadian professional and toured the Labatt’s pro beach tour in Toronto where international competition took place. He also played in the East Volleyball Professionals in the U.S.A.

Michael has passed down his knowledge and love for the game to his wife and three daughters, they all play volleyball at a competitive level.

Paul Hancock

Coach Paul has a long career in volleyball as an athlete and coach.  In his early years, he played at the Canada Games as well as 5 years of University volleyball.  Paul has also played at the outdoor and indoor Senior Nationals (winning Silver and Bronze), and he spent a few years on the beach courts in Vancouver.  Paul's early coaching included a U15 boys provincial development team and a University JV team.  Before Titanium, Paul coached for 3 years at Georgetown Impact. Coach Paul believes that competitive sports provide players with invaluable life experiences and helps to build character and friendships that players will carry with them long after OVA volleyball.

Coach Son is a graduate of University of Toronto PHE, Kinesiology and is a certified Advanced Development Coach, Indoor Volleyball. He has coached community sports in basketball (Milton Stags), baseball(Milton Mets) and hockey(Milton Winterhawks). Volleyball is his true passion being a Peel All-star (1993) and Coach of the Acers team that won a bronze medal at the OVA Ontario Championship (2022) and a silver medal at the Volleyball Canada Nationals (2023), and gold medals at Nationals in (2025, 2026).

Dervon has been playing competitive indoor volleyball since 1989. He has played at all levels – high school, club, university and on the Jamaica National team as an outside hitter. He continues to play intermediate rec level volleyball intermittently.  Dervon’s coaching philosophy is the following: Winning is not the goal of coaching.  The goal is to develop a group of individual athletes into a team based on their capacity, goals, and expectations.  With this athlete centric focus, winning becomes a by-product of their development.

With a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Civil Engineering and a master’s degree in engineering management from Florida International University in Miami, Dervon works as a Construction Project Manager.  He lives in Burlington with his wife Annie and their three children.

Coach Shanna brings over 20 years of diverse coaching experience to the court, with a background spanning from track and field to national-level horseback riding. Her volleyball journey started in high school and carried into her 20s, where she actively competed in numerous beach volleyball tournaments. She began coaching in the OVA in 2021 at Mac, and she is thrilled to be entering her 4th season with Milton Edge.

As an 18-year educator with HDSB, Coach Shanna serves on the Elementary Athletics Council and helps to ensure athletics are accessible to all students. She won the CIRA Ontario Doyle Harkness Award, recognizing significant contributions to Health and PE as an Ontario educator who demonstrates creativity, enthusiasm, and a deep commitment to student leadership through innovative intramural programs.

As a mom of two, she understands the importance of whole-athlete development. Her coaching philosophy centres on unlocking each player’s full potential by instilling resilience, perseverance, and mental strength both on and off the court.

Coach Elena came to us from beautiful Tuscany, Italy where she grew up playing volleyball. She started playing with the MiniVolley Academy at age of 6 and then joined the 14U team at her home town club, "Folgore pallavolo San Miniato". Her first year of 16U she also debuted in the professional category "Prima Divisione". From there, she finished her youth championship up to 18U, and year after year moving up to the various levels of "Serie D, C, B2, B1" to play at the professional level.

Five years ago she moved to Ontario, where she continued her coaching career joining VolleyGirls in Burlington. It has always been Elena’s goal to share her love of volleyball with as many young girls as possible. “With coaching, I hope to transmit to all the girls the passion and motivation for this beautiful sport, and provide all the skills necessary to help them achieve their goals. I want to see all these beautiful ladies succeed!”

Coach Grant's love for competitive sports started at a young age.  He played school volleyball, basketball and baseball through his high school years where he won MVP/Athlete of the Year awards.   His love for volleyball continued through his college years and again won MVP awards for his team.  His coaching career includes head coach for senior girls high school volleyball, head coach for another OVA club level team, assistant coach last year with Milton Crush 15U team where the team won an OVA Provincial gold medal. Coach Dennis is entering his second year of coaching volleyball with the Knights. Before joining the volleyball program, he spent several seasons coaching youth soccer, building a foundation in athlete development and team leadership. A lifelong competitor, Dennis developed a passion for sports at an early age. He grew up playing competitive basketball, played for his high school volleyball team, and continued to enjoy both sports recreationally while attending University.

Dennis has built his professional career in construction management and whether he's leading a project team or coaching on the court, he believes that everyone has something valuable to contribute.

His goal is to inspire athletes to work hard, support one another, and become confident teammates and competitors.

Joan Martin played four years of varsity volleyball as a libero at Brock University, where she developed the foundation for her passion for the game and athlete development.

With over 20 years of coaching experience, Joan has coached at the high school level, earning multiple ROPSSAA championships, and has worked with Olympia Sports Camp, VolleyGirls Academy, Halton Hurricanes, and now Milton Edge. Her most recent team competed at the D1 T1 level.

He brings that passion and experience into every practice, creating an environment where athletes are challenged, supported, and encouraged to reach their potential.

Chad believes athletes develop best in an environment that combines high expectations with strong support, where they are encouraged to play with confidence, embrace challenges, and never be afraid to make mistakes. His coaching philosophy emphasizes strong technical fundamentals, high-repetition training, and creating an engaging, positive atmosphere where athletes can develop both on and off the court.

As a coach, Coach Ken is focused on developing the next generation of athletes. With a coaching style that emphasizes teamwork, discipline, and skill development, he is committed to helping players grow both on and off the court. Whether it’s building technical fundamentals or teaching strategic play.

She represented the Jamaica National Volleyball Team and played NCAA Division II volleyball in the United States on an athletic scholarship.

Sports has always been a significant part of Roger’s life. After playing high school football and basketball, and lacrosse at the senior and major level, he moved into the realm of refereeing. His refereeing career has advanced to international and professional leagues. But through it all, coaching been a major part of Roger’s life for well over 35 years. Starting with a U10 basketball team at the age if 18, he has coached multiple sports such as basketball, football, Lacrosse, hockey, and of course, volleyball. He’s been coaching volleyball in the school system for the last 30 years at the  Elementary level as well as some high school volleyball. In his time coaching school volleyball he has brought home multiple championships and medals. He began working in volleyball development programs 10 years ago and for the last six years has jumped into coaching club volleyball. He has coached at the 11U, 12U and 13U levels. In 2022, Roger coached the Halton Hurricanes 13U girls to a division 1, tier 1 provincial championship. He is bringing his enthusiasm and passion for coaching volleyball to the Milton Edge.

Coach Joe's love for volleyball dates all the way back to grade four, learning the game for the first time in gym class.  He has followed the sport into his adulthood where he continues to play at an recreational level.  This is coach Joe's first year coaching with the Edge.  He started coaching in his first year of teaching and has continued to do so for the past 20 years.  During this time, he has coached high-school boys and girls teams at junior and senior levels; with a wide range of skills and experience.  His coaching philosophy is to build skills with kids and help them grow so they may continue to enjoy this game throughout their lives.  He is looking forward to a wonderful and exciting year!

Jonina Baron

Jonina's passion for sport began as a rep soccer player in Burlington, sparking a lifelong commitment to women's athletics and youth development. She has been coaching since her teens, combining her love of sport and working with young people as a coach with the Milton Edge Valkyries.

Jonina's dedication to youth has been recognized through the HDSB Inspire Award, where she was nominated for her work with student teams and clubs, and the Queen's Jubilee Award for her contributions to youth and volunteerism in Milton.

As a coach, Jonina believes volleyball offers unique opportunities to develop resilience, teamwork, and confidence. Her coaching philosophy focuses on fostering intrinsic motivation, helping athletes build mental strength, and supporting each player in reaching their individual and team goals. This is Jonina and Jeremy's second year with Milton Edge.

Coach Shane has been a part of the volleyball community for the past 28 years as a player, coach and organizer. For the past 18 years, he has been coaching Milton youth volleyball athletes ranging from 8-18 years old as a Halton District School Board teacher.  In 2015, he began coaching in the OVA as a rep coach with the Milton Edge Volleyball Club in their inaugural season.  In his tenure as an NCCP Level 1 coach, his teams have won multiple medals/titles at events across North America.
