Coaching Development Director

As an NCCP Level 1 coach, Coach Stuart has been passionately active in volleyball as a player and coach for 40 years. He was privileged to be a part of teams that won championships at high school, collegiate and club levels, including an OFSAA SR Championship, 3 OCAA Championships, 6 Ontario Club Provincial championships (U17, Men's and Masters), and CCAA Silver and Bronze medals. Coaching level experience includes head coach and Technical Director for Burlington Blaze Boy's program, Sheridan Bruins Men's Varsity Volleyball coach, Spikes program coach and Special Olympics volunteer. He brings with him a professional background in business, institutional communication and adult learning behaviours which helps him message a "team first" concept with athletes to achieve goals set out for each season. He is very excited to go into his 3rd year with Milton Edge, in various roles including head and assistant coach, and is now taking on Vice President.

John Canjar

Head Coach 18U Girls Platinum

As an NCCP Level 2 coach, Coach John has been in the world of volleyball for over 36 years. He is a well-known beach and indoor player, having played on the Beach National Team 89-91, with various top 10 finishes in FIVB World Beach Tours, Norceca Championships, and Various Invitational competitions around the world. Coach John also has his place in Canadian indoor volleyball, having played with the Varsity Blues Men’s Volleyball team, where he can be found at the University of Toronto’s Sports Hall of Fame. Their team were OUAA Champions for 3 years, and CIS Silver Medalists. Growing up in Toronto throughout his youth, he won a variety of medals the Men’s Provincial and National Volleyball Championships; he played at the Ontario Summer Games and on Team Ontario for the Canada Summer Games Team. He has spent the last 7 years coaching and taking on various roles with Milton Edge, where he looks forward to continuing to help kids develop their life skills and experiences through the sport of volleyball.

Coach Johnson migrated to Canada from the Caribbean 25 years ago and has always lived in Toronto until last year when he moved to Milton. He works for the Toronto District School Board as an Educator out of WTCS. He has been there for a few years and ran a number of clubs, teaching, programs and coaching. Here is Johnson's volleyball background.

Suhayl’s intro to volleyball started overseas in Kuwait in Grade 8 when he played for his school’s junior varsity team. He followed that up with a couple of more years of JV ball before moving to Canada with his family in 1990 where he continued playing at high school and university. After graduation, he continued to play in competitive leagues throughout the GTA for a few more years and did not get back into it again until his daughter, Maya, expressed interest and started to fall in love with the game herself. He followed his daughter in 2018 when she made the Milton Edge U13G team where he started the season as a parent and halfway through became an AC for her team. He followed that in 2019 where he was an AC for both the U13G Platinum team and U13G Diamond team. Also in 2019, he joined the Milton Edge Board team as the club’s VP and also completed his NCCP Volleyball Level 1 Development Workshop and will be going through the evaluation process this year to gain his Level 1 Indoor Volleyball Coaching Certification.

Coach Ryan has grown up with volleyball as a player, coach, referee and volunteer.  He started in Halton Region, and was named MVP in the Halton Region all star game in his senior year of high school.  Ryan moved on to play for the University of Guelph, where he had a very fulfilling university career setting for the Gryphons. He has also coached at the high school level, and was a carded referee for many years, refereeing both high school and intramural volleyball at University.  Last year, he volunteered with the Milton Edge program after his two daughters joined the club, and is thrilled to be jumping in as head coach for the 16U Fierce Girls. Ryan is very active across the community in many ways, including as the former chair and board member for the YMCA of Greater Toronto.

Coach Lauren has 16 years of high-level volleyball under her belt. Winning multiple premier OVA tournaments as well as Provincials, being named an All-star 2 years in a row, playing for Team Ontario 18u when she was just 16, and again the following year. She went on to play at Toronto Metropolitan University (or Ryerson when she attended) making the All-Star team every year and being a part of the team that went 25-0 winning the OUA championship and USports Nationals. Following her University career, she took her game a bit further and played a professional season in Sweden. This is her first year with Edge as well as a first-time coach and is looking forward to learning and growing throughout the season.

Tanya is excited to coach the 14U Girls team for Milton Edge!  Tanya is a local elementary school teacher at Bruce Trail Public School.  She has worked hard to build the volleyball program at her school which culminated in winning the Halton AA Gr. 7/8 Girls Volleyball Championship in 2019/2020.   This is Tanya’s 7th year with Milton Edge, having served on the Board of Directors for three years and helping run our popular Indoor Summer Camp for three years.  Tanya also supports & cheers on her two daughters as they progress through the 16U - 18U ranks and looks forward to bringing the “rep experience” to a new generation of young athletes!

Coach Paul has a long history of playing, organizing, and coaching adult and youth sport. He was a valued member in his cultural community where he served as a soccer player and coach. Later he took on the role of secretary and president of their sports club. At their cultural community park, he helped organize youth and adult soccer tournaments. He also organized and ran soccer clinics for children ages 4 – 6 years old. Since moving to Milton in 2008, he has been involved in coaching his two boys in soccer. He continues to coach them at the rep level in the Peel Halton Soccer League. Last year Paul took on the role of Head Coach for our boys 6v6 rally ball team. With the help of his assistant coaches and manager, they were able to win a bronze medal at the OVA Provincials.

Shane Kilgour has been a part of the volleyball community for 25 years as a player, coach or organizer. For the past 15 years, he has been coaching Milton's youth volleyball at the school and rep level with athletes ranging from 8-18 years old. Seven years ago he began coaching in the OVA as a rep coach with the Milton Edge Volleyball Club in their inaugural year. In his tenure, his teams have won multiple titles within Halton athletics, as well as multiple OVA medals.
