John Canjar – Technical Director and 13UG Head Coach (2019/20 Season)

As an NCCP Level 2 coach, Coach John has been in the world of volleyball for over 35 years. He is a well known beach and indoor player, having played on the Beach National Team 89-91, with various top 10 finishes in FIVB World Beach Tours, Norceca Championships, and the Japanese Yokohama Open. Coach John has his place in indoor volleyball, having played Varsity Blues Men’s Volleyball, he can be found at the University of Toronto’s Sports Hall of Fame. Their team were OUAA Champions for 3 years, and CIS Silver Medalists. As a younger player, he won silver at the Men’s Juvenile Volleyball Championships, played on Team Ontario at the Canada Summer Games, and were Region 5 All Stars at the Ontario Summer Games. He looks forward to continuing to help Milton Edge grow.

Gus Tsiapalis – President and 13UB Head Coach (2019/20 Season)

As an OVA Advanced Development Beach Coach and NCCP level 1 Coach, Coach Gus has been involved in playing and helping grow beach volleyball in Canada for over 30 years. He has been the Beach Director for Milton Edge for 4 years, head coach for 4 years, and this is his second season elected as President of Milton Edge. In 2012, he coached Josh Binstock/Martin Reader toward the 2012 Olympics, as well as Josh Binstock/Sam Schachter toward Canada’s 1st FIVB Gold in over 24 years. Coach Gus also coached the OVA High Performance Regional Beach Program for 15U boys, coached the Volleyball Canada Regional Excellence Program (VCCE), and continues to coach beach each year at Madawaska Volleyball Camp.

As a young player he won 2 city championships playing for London Saunders SS, one of the best volleyball high schools in Canada. He went on to play for University of Western Ontario’s Mustangs, and also helped coach Forest City’s 15U to National Champion Gold. He then went on to play professional beach, where as the youngest team on the tour he and his partner made a name for themselves as one of the top 5 Canadian Beach teams and he was awarded Rookie of the Year, and Most Sportsmanlike player. After taking a break from volleyball to study to become a Chiropractor, he returned to coaching when his children started showing an interest in beach volleyball. He has helped coach all 4 of his children in volleyball, including the eldest 3 in indoor rep volleyball with Milton Edge and in competitive beach volleyball.

Haiqi “Chi” Liu – Beach Director (2020 Season)

Haiqi “Chi” Liu served as Director for the Milton Edge Beach Volleyball Program for Summer 2019. Chi planned, oversaw and delivered the Elite, Elite Plus and Premier Beach Volleyball programs.

Jeremy Stevens – 15UG Platinum Head Coach (2019/20 Season)

Jeremy is is excited to be continuing coaching at Milton Edge, the 15U Platinum Edge Girls team. He has been with Milton Edge since it’s inception 5 years ago and has his NCCP Level 1 coaching certification. Coach Jeremy’s athletic background is in Rep Lacrosse and Club Wrestling, finishing in top 3 at Provincials. He was a volleyball player throughout high school and player in recreational leagues and has loved getting back into and giving to the sport again. He is passionate about helping youth skills development, and enjoying sport and competition while having fun!

Stuart Hooper – 16UB Razors Head Coach (2019/20 Season)

Stuart is very pleased to be part of the Milton Edge Razors 16U boys team as Head Coach. He developed his love for the game starting at 13 years old as a player, and has continued to play at Club, College and Elite Levels for 40 years. He began his coaching career 15 years ago, starting with high school club levels and progressing to First Assistant for 3 years with Sheridan College Varsity Men’s Team. He is NCCP certified and is driven to use his knowledge and experience on and off the court to assist his players in realizing their goals as athletes and young men.

Jack Cabral – 15UG Platinum Assistant Coach (2019/20 Season)

Jack’s love for the game started when he was in grade school, and followed him thoughout high school and College. He wanted to pass along his love and excitement for the game of volleyball and found a home here at the Edge. He is currently working on completing his Level 1 coaching certificate. He has been an assistant coach for Edge’s 13U and 14U girls team over the past 2 years, and looks forward to being the assistant coach for the 15U girls this season.

Ipan Hayar – 15UG Iron Edge Head Coach (2019/20 Season)

Ipan’s experience with volleyball started 15 years ago in fifth grade when she decided to try out for her school’s volleyball team to avoid having recess in the rain. She instantly fell in love with the sport and spent every year after that playing competitive indoor volleyball on her school and club teams. She played the majority of her career as a left side and libero. During high school she received several scholarships to continue playing at the NCAA Div 1 and OCAA level, however she decided to play at Carleton University as libero. She looks forward to her 2nd year as a part of the Milton Edge family and is excited to be coaching the next generations of volleyball!

Raphael Lloren – Coaching Director and 15UB Head Coach (2019/20 Season)

Raphael is a recently certified Volleyball Canada Performance Coach in Indoor Volleyball and is a trained Advanced Development Coach for Beach Volleyball.  He is the Coaching Director at Milton Edge Volleyball Club while he is pursuing a degree in Financial Mathematics at Ryerson University. His role in the club is to:

• define the coaching methodology used in all programs within the club; select,
•  train and mentor coaches for all programs; and
• assign coaches whose skills and experience align with the teams’ developmental needs.

Over the past fifteen years, he has accumulated extensive volleyball experience and expertise coaching different levels of volleyball, from elementary school to university, and he is very excited to share his passion for the game with the the athletes and coaches at Milton Edge.

He was involved with the following volleyball programs as:

• Head Coach for the 17U Boys Team at Mountain Athletics Club (MAC) in Hamilton, Ontario from 2016 to 2017, finished 7th overall in Ontario
• Assistant Coach for the Men’s Volleyball Team at the University of Alberta – Augustana in Camrose, Alberta from 2013 to 2015, qualified for the CCAA Men’s Volleyball National Championships in 2015
• Head Coach for the 15U Girls Team at Northern Alberta Volleyball Club in Edmonton, Alberta from 2012 to 2013, finished 5th overall in Alberta; and
• Assistant Coach for the Women’s Volleyball Team at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario from 2010 to 2012, which qualified for the CIS Women’s Volleyball National Championship in 2011.

Linnéa Davis – 14UB Lightning Head Coach (2019/20 Season)

Linnéa’s passion for volleyball started 14 years ago when she started playing volleyball at her elementary school. From there she played volleyball for her high school and club teams, Peel Selects and Etobicoke Titans. On her weekends off from playing, she coached her peers at Spikes Volleyball Club. After high school, Linnéa started her varsity career at Brock University and finished at Niagara College where she specialized in right side and middle. In her free time, she enjoyed helping her coaches develop practices and organize clinics for local clubs, Niagara Rapids and Niagara Fury. By the end of the 5th year of her varsity career, she was an OCAA West Division 1st Team All-Star, CCAA and OCAA Academic All-Canadian and was a national scholar. She also won the Niagara College Leadership Award and the Award of Excellence for her dedication to athletics. Linnéa continues to play volleyball with her old teammates and has recently taken an interest in beach volleyball with the help of beach enthusiast, Milton Edge President Gus.

Jeff Wang – 14UG Head Coach (2019/20 Season)

Jeff is joining Milton Edge after assistant coaching University of Toronto Mississauga Women’s and Men’s Volleyball team. He is a trained Development Coach Level 1, with over 10 years of volleyball experience.He takes on the task of head coaching with great enthusiasm and is ready to pass on his passion and techniques to the new generations who aspire to become great athletes through volleyball.

Michael Cameron – Development Director (2019/20 Season)

Michael is a former Canadian professional beach volleyball player. He head coached for Niagara Rapids Volleyball Club and Halton Hurricanes Volleyball Club, Camp Madawaska and Assistant Coached Milton Edge’s Razors team for 2 years. He is the Development Director for Milton Edge, overseeing Skills Development, Spikes, Parents & Players, and House League programs. Volleyball is his passion and has been ingrained in his life since a young age. He continues to play on co-ed teams with his wife, and has also coached all 3 of his daughters in both indoor rep volleyball and competitive beach volleyball.
